Samskritam aficionados from the New York metro area welcomed the advent of spring season with a stellar performance of Mohiniattam dance by Smita Rajan and party. The setting was a fundraiser organized by Samskrita Bharati, New York to celebrate the 20th year of Samskrita Bharati in USA.
The well-attended program (300 people) started with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest Dr. Kishore Kuncham, Superintendent of Freeport Public Schools in Long Island, New York. Children from the Hindu Kerala Society chanted various prayers. Srinivas Mahankali, New York Sanchalaka welcomed the gathering. Dr. Padmakumar spoke in Samskritam about contributions of Indian culture to the west. This was followed by a presentation on Samskrita Bharati by Rajeev Bhaskaran. Smitha Rajan and team gave an enthralling performance captivating the viewers. Mala Venkateswaran superbly emceed the event. Madhu Pillai worked tirelessly behind the scenes to plan and coordinate this celebration. Deepa Nair, Suresh Kumar Shanmughom, Nagaraj, and Rajeev did a tremendous job selling the tickets for the event. All the Samskrita Bharati New York volunteers donated their time and efforts helping with every aspect of the program to coordinate an outstanding show!
